ABC Certified Server Training provides approved, certified and skills-based courses, and skills validation. This includes the Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training Course, approved by the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC).

ABC Certified Server Training develops content to help servers realize their potential and prove their skills.

To serve alcohol in California you must have RBS certification. To achieve this, you must complete an approved Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) training course and pass the Alcohol Server Certification Exam administered by the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC)

To receive your RBS server certification:

1: Create your account as a server in the RBS Portal and pay the registration fee.

2: Complete training from an approved RBS Training Provider. ABC Certified Server Training is an approved RBS Training Provider and you can access our approved CA Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Training Course (CA) here.

3: Pass ABC’s Alcohol Server Certification Exam.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) in California provides licensing, education, and enforcement services in relation to the manufacture, distribution and sale of alcoholic beverages in the state.

The department’s workload is divided into three elements: administration, licensing, and compliance.

Yes. After completing our RBS training course, you must log into the ABC RBS portal to pass the official Alcohol Server Certification Exam.

Californian RBS Certification is valid for 3 years from the date of issue, after which alcohol servers must recertify.

If you are an alcohol server in a licensed premises in California, the law states that you must have RBS certification.

An alcohol server is anyone employed or contracted by an ABC on-premises licensee to serve alcoholic beverages for consumption, or supervise alcohol servers.

This includes anyone who:

  • Delivers alcoholic beverages to patrons.
  • Checks patron identification
  • Takes patron alcoholic beverage orders
  • Pours alcoholic beverages

Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) in California refers to training that is mandated by ABC to “teach servers to responsibly serve alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption and mitigate alcohol-related harm in California communities”.

The RBS Training Program is managed by ABC, who approve RBS Training Providers, such as us, to provide courses that deliver the required curriculum.

Upon passing an RBS Training course, servers must pass ABC’s Alcohol Server Certification Exam to be licensed to serve.

The California Assembly Bill 1221 (2017) established the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program Act to help reduce alcohol-related harm in local communities.

The bill required ABC to create the Responsible Beverage Service Training Program (RBSTP).

You must log in to your RBS portal account to take and pass the official California Alcohol Server Certification Exam within 30 days of completing our preparatory RBS training course.

We do also conduct scheduled maintenance, which will result in the platform being unavailable for a short time (usually over a weekend night). We place banners to advise users of this in advance. Very occasionally, our team may have to respond to security threats, which may result in immediate action being taken and us not being able to provide advance notification. Again, please check back later or the following day and normal service should have resumed.

Please be assured that course progress is saved and you will be able to re-commence where you left off. In rare circumstances, if connection drops out, the last lesson or item you were working on my not have registered and you will need to re-start that and click Mark Complete or Submit.
